MB&F HM1 - Put this on your MUST HAVE list!

Horological Machine No.1
Not simply pushing the limits, but creating a totally new dimension!

MB&F presents Horological Machine No. 1

While the tourbillon may be the technical element to first catch the eye, it was the four massive mainspring barrels under the dial which dictated the foundation of HM1’s movement design and construction. The two barrels on the left are wound by the rotor, while the two barrels on the right are wound by the crown. Each pair of barrels needs to equalize their energy with the other around the void of the tourbillon in the narrowest section of the movement. Distributing that immense power required the development of a sophisticated beryllium gear train. Using four mainspring barrels in parallel enabled MB&F to reduce the torque of each mainspring, thus improving accuracy, decreasing wear and increasing longevity… all while maintaining an incredible seven days of power reserve.

Horological Machine No. 1 (created by watchmaker Peter Speake-Marin) is an extremely sophisticated timepiece on many levels: visually, technically and emotionally. As much, if not more, art and sculpture as micro-engineering. By designing and constructing a three-dimensional machine, MB&F have broken free of the constraints imposed by traditional horology.

HM 1 features a radical new design and construction plus a totally original movement with 376 parts and 81 functional jewels - yet only 30 per year are to be crafted over the next three years.

Oh No! Don’t fall for those online deals!

Posted in General on October 11th, 2006

I just received a phone call from a poor soul who decided to save a few bucks by purchasing his Big Pilot online only to be out of luck when it died on him. Remember guys, the Internet can be great for looking, but don’t touch! Too many get burned - it isn’t worth it!

Service is what we need and love, so buy your timepieces the old fashioned way, in a store, from an Authorized Dealer!

Welcome to Mechanical Watches.

I will try to focus exclusively on mechanical watches, but there will be times when other watch industry news is just too important to pass up on! Please bear with me as this blog is new and I am agressively working on updating it’s content.

Sincerely,
